Course Description

English I is a required course for all 9th graders and focuses primarily on increasing students' literacy skills.  While much of the curriculum works to bring the students' writing up to a ninth-grade level, each unit also addresses various critical thinking, reading, listening and speaking skills that will prepare the students for English II and ultimately for college.  The content of each unit is focused around an essential question, and many of these essential questions connect to the content in Verbal Reasoning and College Readiness as well.  At the end of the unit, students will develop an articulate response to the essential question through projects and essays.
